How to Choose the Right Domain Name

Learn how to choose a clear, memorable domain name and the right extension before buying, connecting, or transferring it with CentralApp.

Written by Solange Lin Lai Yat

A domain name is your website's address. A good choice should be easy to remember, easy to type, and consistent with your business name.

Choose a clear and memorable name

  • Keep it short and easy to pronounce.

  • Use your business or brand name whenever possible.

  • Avoid unnecessary numbers, repeated hyphens, and unusual spellings.

  • Make sure it will still suit the business if your offer grows.

    Examples:

  • ✔️ boulangerie-dupont.fr (clear, local, professional)

  • ❌ boulangerie-dupont-75-paris-officiel.biz (too long and difficult to memorize)

Choose the right extension

  • For a local audience: a country extension such as .be, .fr, or .nl can make your market clear.

  • For an international audience: .com is widely recognized.

  • For a specialist extension: use options such as .restaurant only when they are familiar and easy for your customers to understand.

Check availability and legal risks

  1. Search for the name and its main extension variants.

  2. Check that it is not already used by another company or protected brand.

  3. Avoid a name that could easily be confused with a well-known brand.

Choose how to use the domain with CentralApp

From the Domain name section, you can:

  • buy a new available domain through CentralApp,

  • connect a domain while keeping it with your current provider, or

  • transfer an eligible domain to CentralApp.
